How to Package Your Artwork
Correct packaging is essential to protect your artwork from damage during handling and transport. Following the instructions below will help ensure it arrives safely and in the same condition it left your studio. All artworks must arrive at Watson Art Centre packaged, even if they are hand-delivered in person.
Materials
- Parchment paper or acid-free tissue paper
- Bubble wrap
- Sturdy cardboard box
- Packing tape
- Scissors
- Additional packing material (scrunched paper or extra bubble wrap)
- Permanent marker or label (for marking Fragile)
Step by Step Guide
1. Prepare a clean surface
Lay the artwork facing upwards on a clean, flat surface
2. Wrap with parchment or tissue paper
Cover the entire artwork with parchment paper or acid-free tissue paper. Make sure the surface of the artwork is fully protected and secure the paper gently with tape if needed (avoid taping directly to the artwork).
3. Add bubble wrap (bubbles facing outwards)
Wrap the artwork in bubble wrap with the bubbles facing outwards. This prevents the bubble pattern from marking the artwork and adds cushioning.
4. Secure the bubble wrap
Use tape to hold the bubble wrap firmly in place, without compressing it too tightly.
5. Place into a cardboard box
Choose a sturdy cardboard box slightly larger than the wrapped artwork. Place the artwork inside, ensuring it fits snugly.
6. Fill any gaps
Add packing material (scrunched paper or extra bubble wrap) so the artwork cannot move inside the box.
7. Seal and label
Seal the box securely with packing tape and label it clearly as FRAGILE.
